The Predator

set design - 2016-2017

The interior of the Predator’s alien spacecraft, the ‘Ark’, was the focus of my time on this movie. I was tasked to develop and detail this set based on the Production Designer’s hand-sculpted miniature models. The design of the cockpit and rear airlock sections were accomplished by others while I was responsible for everything in between, with a particular focus on developing the floor, the Escape Pod Bay and the Cryo Tube hatches. Nearly all of the 3D modelling was done in Maya using Sub-D meshes in order to achieve the flowing organic aesthetic set by the Production Designer.

For this set I produced detailed CNC files, including a number of large, full scale segments of the interior. I also used parametric software to help me create the perforated floor patterns throughout the ship and I was responsible for designing several small pieces throughout the interior, including 3D printed Hologram Projectors that were integrated into the cockpit consoles.
